Research Hub:
Cultural and Social Dynamics of the Diaspora

The Russian-speaking diaspora has historically been shaped by migration, exile, and political upheavals, with recent waves of emigration driven by the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Many within this community face challenges related to integration, identity formation, and political engagement while navigating new cultural and social landscapes.

This Research Hub is a platform for academic and independent studies exploring these dynamics. We highlight research on immigration experiences, integration processes, the evolution of cultural heritage, and the role of political activism in transnational communities. As a Canadian organization, we are particularly interested in the Russian-speaking diaspora in Canada and its response to the ongoing war and repression in Russia, while also welcoming broader international perspectives.

The war has raised difficult questions of responsibility, guilt, and division within our communities. At the same time, immigrants must contend with assimilation, belonging, and the redefinition of identity in exile. By sharing research that examines these critical themes from sociological, psychological, and anthropological perspectives, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the diaspora’s cultural and political realities.
