Exclusive Interview with Maksim Kurnikov
Conducted by Albina Klimenko on February 14, 2024
Maksim Kurnikov is a Russian journalist renowned for his unwavering dedication to independent media and freedom of speech. As the former deputy editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow, co-host of Ekaterina Shulman’s YouTube show, and the head of Echo — an online media platform created in exile—Maksim is at the forefront of truthful journalism. He also leads the Russian department at Bild and co-authored the powerful documentary Famine, that sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in Soviet history.
In this compelling interview with the Russian Canadian Democratic Alliance (RCDA), Maksim shares insights into his life in Berlin, the challenges of maintaining independent journalism in exile, and the vital importance of civic activism abroad.
At a time when propaganda thrives, Maksim and his team at Echo work tirelessly to deliver honest, high-quality journalism. But this work is under threat—Echo urgently needs to raise €93,000 (as of Nov 29) to sustain their operations.
