FREE120 Montreal: "Summer of Hope"

Film Screening, Special Guests & Letter-Writing Event in Support of Seriously Ill Political Prisoners

The Russian Canadian Democratic Alliance (RCDA) is joining the international FREE120 campaign, launched together with our colleagues at FREE120 and Letters to Political Prisoners, to support seriously ill political prisoners imprisoned in Russia.

The event will feature a screening of the documentary Russia vs. Lawyers by director Maria Novikova, followed by a zoom Q&A and discussion with the filmmaker. Through the stories of courageous human rights lawyers who defended people persecuted by Putin's regime—and who, in many cases, later became political prisoners themselves—we will reflect on the human cost of repression and the importance of standing together.

The evening will also include remarks from special guests, readings of letters from political prisoners, and a letter-writing session. Whether you have written before or this is your first time, we will provide everything you need to send a message of solidarity to someone imprisoned for their beliefs.

Film in Russian with English subtitles.

Admission is free. Our goal is to raise funds for seriously ill political prisoners whose survival often depends on support from outside prison walls. Donations will help provide essential humanitarian assistance, including food, medication, legal support, and emergency aid.

Every contribution—no matter the amount—makes a real difference.

Political prisoners in Russia have been isolated from the world. Together, we can remind them that they have not been forgotten.

If you are able, please consider making a donation. We truly rely on the support of people like you to continue this work.
