On February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale war in Ukraine, we gather to witness, reflect, and stand in solidarity with those living through it. Over the past year, BBC Eye Investigations has collected video diaries documenting the lives of people who chose to stay in Kharkiv, capturing deeply personal moments of those living through the war.

Albina Kovalyova: Albina Kovalyova is an award-nominated independent documentary producer and director specializing in compelling human stories from Ukraine, Russia, and the former Soviet Union. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she has focused on character-led films about the war. She directed and produced Occupied for BBC Eye Investigations, a first-hand account of a family facing Russian occupation in Kherson, Ukraine. Kharkiv War Diaries is her latest documentary for BBC Eye.
