Dear friends,

RCDA invites you to visit Antiwar Resistance Festival in support of political prisoners in Russia. It will take place in Montreal starting July, 31 up to August, 4.

In collaboration with Memorial Prisoners, and supported by The Ark and Concordia University we prepared a series of events aiming to raise awareness of what is going on in Russia, to tell about life under authoritarian regime and to make Russian resistance known.

We proudly announce the festival headliners – the SPEECH(LESS) exhibit by the Art Group POMIDOR and The Dmitriev Affair documentary film screening directed by Jessica Gorter.

SPEECH(LESS) invites the observer to view quotes and portraits of political prisoners – to see faces of antiwar resistance in conditions of war censorship in Russia and to reflect on self-restrictions be that imposed by the state or popular public opinion. The project creators – artists Polina and Maria – know the subject firsthand: after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine they made a decision to leave Moscow for London. The exhibit will be located in the Centre d’artiste Agrégat (150, Place Charles-Le Moyne, Longueuil, QC J4K 0A8).

“The Dmitriev Affair” unveils the story of Stalinism victims in Karelia and at the same time narrates about Yury Dmitriev – a historian who fights the regime attempting to tell the truth about the Great Terror and becomes the object of repressions by Russian authorities himself. The film will be screened at Théâtre Sainte-Catherine (264 St Catherine St E, Montreal, Quebec H2X 1L4).

The gallery opening with installations and public talk starts at 5 pm on July 31 at Centre d’artiste Agrégat! We are looking forward to seeing you there!
