Two skilled professionals urgently need your help to secure their future in Canada. As a lesbian couple, they left Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine to avoid supporting the war and to protect themselves from persecution.
Since leaving their home country, they have been living in limbo, moving between countries while waiting for their Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada. One of them was nominated for PR through a program recognizing her exceptional technical skills. However, their application is now at risk because she previously worked for Rostelecom, a large corporation in Russia.
Her role was purely technical and unrelated to politics or international affairs, yet concerns have been raised due to the company’s alleged ties to Russian state structures. This has created an unexpected hurdle in their immigration process.
We are raising funds to help them cover the legal fees and ensure their case is reviewed fairly. The couple simply wants to settle in Canada, contribute to society, and live openly and safely as a family—something that was impossible in Russia.
This case also highlights a broader issue. Many tech and science professionals from countries with sanctioned entities face similar challenges, even when their work is not connected to harmful activities. Supporting this couple not only helps them directly but also ensures that Canada’s immigration process remains fair for others in similar situations.
